Empowerment
For far too long members have suffered from mismanagement and gone without proper representation. Candidates David, Tyron and Howard have felt the effects of the continued inaction and neglect of current EAA leadership. Educators deserve a union that will fight for them.
- Leadership should respond to inquiries in a consistent and timely manner
- Concerns and feedback need to be addressed and resolved without issue
- It should be standard that meetings be held regularly, with feedback encouraged and the bylaws respected
Transparency
Proper representation comes through adherence to the bylaws. If order is to be maintained and the union to serve educators then the bylaws must be enforced. They are the standard to which the union is set and no union member should be above them. Wielding them against members is injustice and does educators a grave disservice.
- Members should never be discouraged or chastised for engagement
- Representation should exist in every ACPS location and ensure all educators are included (teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, transportation, food services, etc.)
- EAA election results, budgets, negotiations should be public and any information should be readily accessible and available for review
Dedication
Educators' best interests must be leaderships’ top priority. EAA leadership has consistently ignored the will and the wishes of members and non members. The union exists to serve the members, not the other way around.
- Every decision should center around the consensus and will of educators and their best interest
- Negotiations during collective bargaining should be public and only proceed with members agreement and explicit endorsement
- Agreements made during collective bargaining should reflect the needs and concerns of educators
Engagement
Active membership holds leadership accountable through involvement. The union’s primary focus should revolve around educators and supporting their endeavors. It is time to build a union that works both with and for all educators that it is meant to represent.
- Regularly prompt and receive feedback from all educators to ensure their needs and concerns are being met and addressed ongoing
- Have a representative speak at school board meetings to have local support
- Members should feel as if their union dues are an investment and not a waste
